Roof Gable End Board

One by 2 inch rake boards often cover the exposed top edge of the siding when there also is an eave overhang on the gable end.

Barge boards decorative boards mounted under the roofing at a gable end traditionally timber nowadays usually upvc. Framing a gable roof building a gable with barge end purlin struts and collar ties. The rake can be smooth without the overhang or it can lift the gable end like an eave. The hanging rake then locks with the soffit and fascia or opens to the left. A horizontal timber or metal resting at the peak of the roof the rafters and trusses are connected to the ridge board for a cohesive framework.

Use your hammer and nail the rafter in at an angle from the opposite side. They may be mounted flash on the end wall or stood off on an overhanging framework with a soffit underneath. The 6 inches of rigid insulation added to the top of the existing roof deck needed to be done in a manner that was invisible. Make sure the ridge board sits level so your roof is straight. For the arrangement of the gable end overhang for the standard roof you lengthen the ridge beam beyond the facade for previously verified length using cut rafters. At the right of the roof along the gable end we see more drip edge being used to flash the roof gable end fascia trim and roof edge. Here is a little trivia.

I prefer to install the gable drip edge under the felt though that detail is less critical than at the lower roof edge or eaves. After that you should fix the cornice board to the end sides of the ridge and the load bearing beams. It is a term that describes the slanted sides of a gable end. Secure the end rafters to the ridge board using 8 penny nails.
